How to Write Product Descriptions That Sell

Fun fact: The more time online shoppers spend reading product descriptions, the more likely they are to buy something. At least that’s what this 2023 study found. Interesting, though kind of intuitive, that research conclusion is also a wakeup call for copywriters and online store owners. The quality of the written word affects purchase decisions, so find a way to level up your product description game.

Here’s a playful example from a company that’s operating at next level awesomeness. The product description in the below screenshot comes from an online cosmetics retailer called ColourPop. According to my research, it’s the number one revenue generator on the Shopify platform. They’re all over social media and collaborate with big name entertainers in their space, like BTS. They also write damn fine product descriptions.

Copy like that, which seems very much in tune with their audience, makes aspiring copywriters weak in the knees. “How can I write like that?” they can often be heard whimpering into their third espresso of the morning.

Well, there’s an AIPRM prompt that can help. It works like this. You enter a product name and the AI generates. It’s that simple.
