ChatGPT – it’s that super smart chatbot that everyone’s talking about. It’s important to know that the technology is not magic. It’s not going to take over the world. It doesn’t ‘Understand’ things.
GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer.
We’re not going to get into the details explaining how it operates. You just need to understand that it’s a large language model used to generate human-like text.
It’s been trained on billions of documents like Wikipedia, blogs on the internet, and even Reddit up to the year 2021. It doesn’t automatically connect to the internet (unless you use AIPRM or a ChatGPT Plug-in, we’ll get to that in another tutorial.)
ChatGPT was built by a company called OpenAI.
It’s essentially a chatbot where you can put in any text and it will produce that human-like response. Want to see what the fuss is about?
How to Sign Up for ChatGPT
Step 1. Navigate to https://openai.com/chatgpt and click ‘Try on web’ (or go directly to https://chat.openai.com/.)
Step 2. Click the ‘Sign up’ button.
Step 3. Submit your email address (or your automatic sign-in via Google, Microsoft, or Apple).
Step 4: Verify your email. Go to your email and click the verification link that is sent.
Step 5. Return to https://chat.openai.com/ and click “Login”.
Step 6. Once logged in, you can begin using ChatGPT immediately. Start a ‘New Chat’.
Now you can begin to “prompt” ChatGPT. A prompt is any text submitted into the chat field.
The quality of the generated text depends on the detail and specificity of your prompt.
The important thing to remember is that this is a generative language model, so it’s going to try answering the questions based on the information that you’re providing. This is where prompt engineering improves the results.
