Greetings and salutations, folks. Welcome back to another edition of FridAI. I’m your host, Mike King from AIPRM.

Today, I want to talk to you about how to use Midjourney for generating AI images. If you’re not familiar with generative AI for images, it works similarly to how ChatGPT works. Essentially, you use text-to-image to describe what you’re trying to create, and then the model generates that imagery.

Generative AI for Images

As you can see, we’ve got an image we generated using a prompt that says, “a digital illustration of an AI brain with light rays symbolizing creativity, showcasing how AI can ideate and design”. It can be used for a variety of different things for your business, website, or social media. The value you can derive from it really comes down to how creative you can be in generating something you can use as part of your marketing efforts or whatever content you’re creating.

Generative Image AI Tools

There’s a variety of tools out there for this. They’re trained on millions and, in fact, billions of images, and are able to extrapolate from that to create new imagery. So Midjourney is what we’re going to talk a lot about today. Other tools include Stable Diffusion, which is at Stability AI, Google’s Vertex AI, Bing, which uses DALL-E 2 from OpenAI, and Adobe in Photoshop which uses Adobe Firefly.

Getting Started with Midjourney

Getting started with Midjourney isn’t too difficult, but it’s not your typical app. It’s actually built into Discord. Discord is very similar to Slack, a chat communication application. You’re essentially communicating directly with Midjourney in the chat to then get back the images that you want.

The first step is to create a free account on Discord. Then you choose a Midjourney plan, which starts from $10 a month, and join the Midjourney server. You can go to any channel, whether that’s general or newbie, and then you have access to generate these images.

Building a Midjourney Prompt

Prompting within Midjourney is a bit different from what you’re used to from Chat GPT. It’s a slash command, very similar to IRC or Slack. You type your “/imagine” command, followed by the description of the image you want, then hit send. Midjourney will generate four options for you. You pick whichever one you want or you can make variations on it, upscale it, and download it for use in your projects.

Midjourney Prompt Components

Building your prompts is a crucial part. They have three components you need to account for: images (which are not required but can be very helpful), the text that is the description of the prompt, and a series of parameters (also not required but very helpful to get what you’re looking for).

For example, when describing your subject, it should be clear whether it’s a person, animal, character, or location. Refer to the provided cheat sheet below for more details.

Midjourney Prompt Descriptive Elements

Parameters offer various options, and some key ones to consider are aspect ratio, negative prompts, and seeds for visual noise.

Aspect ratio is important to ensure your image fits the desired space without cropping or distortion.

Negative prompts, indicated by “–no,” allow you to exclude specific elements from the image.

Seeds control the visual noise and stylization of the image.

Experimenting with different styles and phrases in your prompts can help you achieve the desired results. For example, using “cartoon style” in the prompt will generate a cartoon-like image. Lighting also plays a significant role in image appearance. Refer to the cheat sheet for a list of lighting options to try out.

Midjourney is continuously adding new features to enhance generative AI.

Some notable new features in version 5.2 include the Zoom Feature for infinite zooming, the Remix Option to modify prompts, and the Pan Option to move in various directions on the starting image. These features allow for expanding existing images and creating new ones.

Building Midjourney Prompts with AIPRM

At AIPRM, we also provide Midjourney prompts.

You can filter by Midjourney and choose from several available prompts.

Here are a few examples: a cheeseburger advertisement for a Farm-to-Table restaurant, a courthouse stock photo with two lawyers for a law firm website, and a highly detailed Midjourney prompt for a home services business social media image.

AIPRM Prompt #1: Midjourney Prompt Generator

AIPRM Prompt #2: Highly detailed Midjourney Prompt

These can be used to generate various images for different purposes, like advertisements, website images, or social media posts. It allows you to create custom images instead of using stock photos.

In conclusion, imagery is crucial to content in every medium that you’re active in. Using AIPRM with Midjourney allows you to scale the content you’re creating.

That’s all I’ve got for today. As always, there’s a prompt for that. Stay on the lookout for all the stuff we’ve got coming because there are more and more features coming weekly from us. If there’s anything you want me to cover on FridAI, just leave a comment wherever you see this video. I’ll see you next week.
